Our work

Boston Schools Fund (BSF) is a non-profit organization that advances educational equity through opportunity and access to high-quality schools.

The BSF team wakes up every day with one goal: Increase the number of children in Boston attending a high-quality school. We accomplish this by providing capacity and resources for high-quality schools to expand and improve; sharing data and information; collaborating with families and partners; influencing policy; and committing to values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in our work.

Since 2015, BSF has grown its portfolio of partner schools to include 45 Boston schools in the public, charter public, and parochial sectors. Through grantmaking, research and data analysis, and public policy work, BSF has supported the creation of more than 8,000 new seats in high-quality schools, representing over 10% of Boston’s children. In 2017, we designed, built, and launched Boston School Finder, a trusted online tool to navigate the complicated school enrollment process for more than 225 Boston schools each year. We have worked closely with city and state leaders to ensure that Boston advances policies which expand access to high-quality schools for historically marginalized students.

Our Vision

We envision a Boston where every child, regardless of race, ability, income, or neighborhood, attends a high-quality school that meets their needs as learners and allows them to lead choice-filled lives.

Our Mission

Advancing educational equity in Boston by providing opportunity and access to high-quality schools

OUR COMMITMENT TO EQUITY

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) are at the core of what we do and how we work. We are guided by our unwavering commitment to furthering the values and principles of DEIJ through both the impact of our work and within our team as we actively strive to become a more anti-racist organization. OUR impact

BSF remains fortunate to partner with school leaders, teachers, families, and community leaders to continue to advance equitable access to high-quality education in Boston.

In the face of many challenges, more Boston children are attending high-quality schools, more families are using Boston School Finder, and the public conversation on schools, resources, and academic and social-emotional learning has fundamentally shifted. BSF is proud to have played a part.
