Mission Grammar is a Catholic school at the base of Mission Hill, aside the Basilica. With an enrollment of 235 students, growing to 300, Mission Grammar was the first school in the city of Boston to offer an infant, toddler, and elementary program under one roof. At Mission Grammar, the road to college starts at 3 months.

As an urban Catholic school, Mission Grammar enrolls its students primarily from Dorchester and Roxbury; many Mission Grammar families work in the Longwood Medical area. Over 90% of children at school are students of color, and over 70% of students come from low-income families.

Mission Grammar has received several expansion grants from BSF, starting in 2016. BSF grants have supported the buildout of 9 additional classrooms on Mission Grammar’s campus over the past two grant cycles, as well as a new STEM Lab and a playground. BSF also worked closely with school to develop a strategic approach to student recruitment and enrollment, allowing the school to not just serve more children, but also become more financially sustainable.

Ali Dutson is the long-serving, dynamic leader that has brought the vision of growing, thriving Mission Grammar to life. She recently shared:

Mission Grammar has grown in so many ways over the past 5 years thanks to a powerful vision for what is possible and true believers in that vision, like the Boston Schools Fund. They have been innovative thought partners, providing the tools to put our vision in action along with the challenge to grow and think even bigger.

We recently honored BSF at our gala last spring with our “Community Partnership Award” to recognize that we could not be where we are today without their leadership, support, and strategy.
